Yin Yoga targets the deeper, connective tissues through long-held seated poses (2–6 min each). We need to stress all tissues in their appropriate way to maintain or regain optimal health—this aids in right flow of Qì. Physically and mentally challenging, this style complements a Yáng (active) lifestyle or exercise regimen and feels like a series of mini meditations as we come to our edge, place attention in the present, and observe what comes to the surface.

Yoga Nidra (conscious deep sleep) is both the technique as well as the state of consciousness it can lead to ~ Nidra means "sleep" but "Yoga Nidra" means "one-pointed or unified sleep": to rest at the edge of sleep after throwing off the burdens. With practice, the body falls asleep while consciousness remains tethered to awareness just enough to bear witness to the experience. Deeply relaxing and restorative, this blissful practice benefits all systems.

Pairing Yin with Yoga Nidra is intentional ~ both invite the practitioner to explore their edge & request a healthy amount of surrender. The introspective Yin practice encourages a more potent Nidra journey and can be thought of as the energetic prep work to yield to the most important pose of all: śavāsana, corpse pose.

Yin with Yoga Nidra is your time to first feel and then be—give yourself permission for both.
