Yin Yoga with Yoga Nidra class description
This is your opportunity to slow down and increase your awareness. In this class, we'll use props to support us as we hold poses in stillness for 2–6 min at a time, depending on the pose and the individual. We consciously relax the muscles to safely stress the "yin tissues" (fascia, joints, ligaments, tendons, bones) in order to increase mobility, flexibility, and maintain optimal health in our connective tissues. By stressing the tissues and slowing down the breath, we can relieve stuck energy and tension, allowing the Qi to flow more freely through the body, healing our tissues.
The physical aspect of the practice acts like a doorway to the subtler mental, emotional, and energetic benefits. With consistent practice, you'll start to learn your body's anatomy and the difference between tension and compression, increase your sensitivity to your energy (Qi) and assess your state of mind.
Yoga Nidra is a guided journey through the layers of existence. You'll learn to allow the physical body to fall asleep while you work to keep a part of your mind aware and alert: the body enters a sleeplike state and the thinking analytical mind also goes to sleep. In this state, we can explore the subconscious and clear out unconscious programming that may be limiting our potential in our waking lives. With a consistent practice you can create new neural pathways, essentially rewriting new programs for a more intentional life.
30 min of Yoga Nidra is equal to ~2 hours of restful sleep—a healthy boost for the immune system.
